International competition

École des Beaux-Arts, Paris
At nine, was one of only 15 scholarship recipients selected from 1,500 applicants to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Paris junior champion
Won the Paris Junior Chess Championship at the age of eleven.
34+ villages, many roles
Served as a G.O. in more than 34 Club Med villages over a span of 30 years, visiting for a few weeks at a time. Taught karate, backgammon, chess, and bridge; also entertained and played harmonica.
On ice, in many forms
Spent years enjoying hockey, speed skating, ice dancing, and eventually freestyle skating.
Collector & society president
Collected antique cameras and photographs and served three terms as president of the American Photographic Historical Society (APHS), whose membership extended to 67 countries.
A New York beginning
Arrived in the United States with twelve dollars in his pocket. More than fifty years later, he still had those twelve dollars.
